More chairs...and a headboard

We're slowly making our way through all the random chairs clogging up our storage room. We've been working on them since about October last year... and we admit to being a little over them! But we're almost at the end - thank goodness.

Here is some more that we've added to our For Sale page.

And while we're posting pictures, heres a headboard we've got listed too. 

Poison Apple & Black Magic

Mid century mahogany dresser with three drawers on wooden runners. Tapered legs with saucer feet. This has bee refurbished in Voodoo Molly Black Magic & Voodoo Molly Poison Apple, with a clearcoat for protection. The black is shabby and aged, the green is plain. Modern style stainless steel handles.

US Flag Coffee Table

Over here in New Zealand we're starting to get higher and higher summer temps. Thats great for sunbathing, but not so great for painting. At the moment the paint can start to dry on the brush. Arrrggg. Luckily for us we use Resene's Hot Weather Additive in the paint otherwise we'd not get much work done at all.

Yesterday we finished off this US Flag inspired coffee table. As many of our readers know we love to paint Union Jacks - like this one here, here and here - but we've never done this flag before! Heaps of fun and its turned out grrrreat.



The technique we used for distressing the stripes were discovered while making a "mistake" on another project. We used some plastic tape on some not-completely-cured-but-dry-to-touch paint. Unfortunately (or is that fortunately) we had run out of painters masking tape and we couldn't agree on who was going to nip up the road and buy some more lol. So instead of arguing about it out came some packing tape. *Hangs head in shame*.

After painting two coats we gave one pull of the plastic tape and the paint peeled off in this strange-as way!!

Uh-oh, OMG, WTF... which is literally what we said after a long pause with our jaw dropped.

Obviously it wasn't meant to happen. So on that particular project and we had to repaint it. BUT it looked so neat that I've used the technique a couple of times since.

It had a silver lining after all and I live to tell the tale. :)

Anyhooo, here is the finished result of our US flag table. The base is plain semi-gloss black which compliments the bright, shabby design on top.

BTW, the stars were tricky..... ;)

Jute footstool

The radio was playing some very good music today so we often found ourselves singing out loud to the hits...much to each others disgust though because we are both tone deaf. But on the upside it seemed to scare away the summer flies that are starting to accumulate now, so that was a bonus.

We completed this adorable little stool this afternoon. Its lots of fun doing little projects like this in between waiting for paint to dry on the larger projects. It keeps us busy & motivated.

We painted this vintage mini footstool black, rubbed it down on the edges and sealed it with briwax. The jute webbing was hand stencilled.... heaps of fun... and now the stool looks great with that extra bit of punch.

Turquoise Dresser

Some pieces I love and some I really really LOVE.

This is one of them.

Yeah I know I know, you often hear people say "the photo's don't do it justice" and you think "yeah, right". But seriously, the photos don't do it justice...no really, they don't!

This stunning queen anne dresser has that wow factor which is much better in person. I think the multiple layers gives it depth and interest than the plain painted ones just lack. Those ones are boring. This one is, like, interesting!

This unit was painted in two colours from the Voodoo Molly Vintage Colour Range. The drawers are "Sea Monster"; the base colour of the outside unit was first painted in the same "Sea Monster", then coated in a layer of "White Crystal" before a "Black Magic" glaze added.

Vintage Tea Trolley

This trolley has been used as a TV stand in our living room for several years. I'm guessing its from the 1940s or there about.

I'd always wanted to paint it white, but never got around to it.

Now I'm glad because it looks wayyyyyyy cooler now!

Its painted black with red and white union jack stripes. And the best news is its currently up for sale!

Union Jack Drawers

Apart from handbags, shoes and Michael Jackson my 20-something daughter has a "Union Jack" addiction.

She loves them any-which-way they come... clothing, home decor, cushions, wall art,  furniture....she even stuck little union jack flags onto some cupcakes once!

So its easy to guess she wanted this set of drawers when I finished them. She got a big NO from me though as they were a commission for a customer.

But......  the customer wanted me to paint a bigger set instead so this one has become available afterall. My daughter still got another big fat juicy NO from me. Seriously, with all the clothes, dishes and makeup scattered around her room she'd never fit it in anyway!

I bet you can tell that this project was super doper fun! I love the challenge of layers and tape and colours and distressing.... it certainly makes the days fly by thats for sure!

The before photo isn't very good, but to give you an idea of what I had to start with here ya go.
