Queen Anne Magic

We have been working hard (per usual), chipping our way through our storeroom of goodies as well as commissions for customers. The new financial year will be a good one for us I hope, with some exciting new opportunities on the horizon. We love change... so long its for the better!

Speaking of change, what do you think of this beauty! We had our work cut out to minimise all the dings and dents, but the effort was worth it don't you think.

Although I'm not a fan of the polished wooden handles, on this set they were in excellent condition so the customer chose to keep them. They make a lovely contrast to the soft almost creamy look of it.

Deconstructed Drawers

Despite this dresser having 2 out of 3 drawers missing we STILL could see its potential! It was made from a lovely solid wood that just seemed sacrilege to throw out.

So we didn't.

Instead with deconstructed it, trimmed the sides down, dropped the top..... and wha-lah a chest!

Turquoise Dresser

Some pieces I love and some I really really LOVE.

This is one of them.

Yeah I know I know, you often hear people say "the photo's don't do it justice" and you think "yeah, right". But seriously, the photos don't do it justice...no really, they don't!

This stunning queen anne dresser has that wow factor which is much better in person. I think the multiple layers gives it depth and interest than the plain painted ones just lack. Those ones are boring. This one is, like, interesting!

This unit was painted in two colours from the Voodoo Molly Vintage Colour Range. The drawers are "Sea Monster"; the base colour of the outside unit was first painted in the same "Sea Monster", then coated in a layer of "White Crystal" before a "Black Magic" glaze added.

Large Mirror

I have a thing for mirrors. No, not looking into them (rolls eyes)... but the actual visual aspect of them.

I love how they can be transformed into whichever look you want.
I love how they can make a space larger.
I love how they can turn a dark room into a bright one.

Mirrors are one of those magic things that can really change the way a room can look. If only it could change the bags under my eyes and the silver "sprinkles" in my hair!

This mirror above has just been finished by us. We turned a gold covered frame into a spectacular French style one. LOVE IT.

Candy Stripe

When I looked at this set of drawers I was disappointed with how cosmetically damaged the top surface was.

I could have refinished it with time consuming sanding. Nah.

Or I could have covered it all up with builders filler. Nah.

Instead I decided to make use of the flaws and turn it into this candy stripe beauty.

What I love about these is their flexibility. It could be used in a nursery, kids room, teenager or grown-up.... its seriously adaptable. This set of drawers is painted with two of our Voodoo Molly Paint Range colours: "White Crystal" and "Eternal Flame".

In the store room I also found this unusual round chair......
The seat pad was permanentely attached to the seat, but I removed the screws and made it removeable. So now it can be used as an interesting side table OR by putting the seat pad back on, a chair.

I think they look great together.

My and my daughter did this project together, it was lots of fun. :)

Laminate Wood Scotch Dresser

Flat pack furniture is cheap and convenient we all agree on that. But it is also made of crappy laminated wood that doesn't normally stand the test of time unless you are very careful with it. 

Several years ago.... BEFORE I started working on furniture I brought a complete flat-pack bedroom set consisting of 2 sets of drawers, bedside tables, bookcase and headboard. Today we only have the scotch dresser left the other pieces got worn, or water damages or broken. I would never buy this sort of furniture again because it really isn't going to last very long at all generally. 

But the good news is the dresser was still in excellent condition so I decided last week to give it a quick lick of paint, a slight distressing and changed the wooden knobs with brass ones. Hey presto, it looks great now!!

This unit measured 900mm wide, 400 deep and 1050 high. For me to paint, distress and clear coat this for you via commission it will cost $300 (including in-house white paint).

1950 Oak Buffet - French Style

What do you do when a piece of furniture is so ugly that nobody wants it?

You give it the French treatments, thats what!

Come-on, you have to admit that this buffet was..... erm.....hideous! The dark wood made it look top heavy and a little creepy. But once I softed it out with delicate white paint, and removed those art-deco inspired cupboard handles its now fit for any French Country style home. You like?

French Style Nesting Tables

My pants just got completely covered in paint. Grrrrr. Whilst packing all the equipment and stuff away after this project I accidentally dropped the paint-brush-washing-bucket onto the floor, splashing painty mess-ness upwards like a milky white volcano. 

Nice. 

Remind me again why I should ALWAYS wear my painting clothes when working..... au revoir nice pair of jeans....

Voodoomolly blog is featured on "Better After" today in honor of St. Patricks day. Yay! I love love love that blog! Lindsay has showcased two of my upcycles - this one and this one. Check out Better After to see more amazing make-overs.

This hutch dresser had lots of potential. It separated into two for easy transport; had a plate groove on the top shelf; leaded glass doors; and grooved panelling.  It would have been a perfect candidate for on-selling (to fund my out-of-control-hobby)... but we loved it so much we're keeping it!
