A reel blokes stool

"Hi honey, I'm home"
"Hello my gorgeous husband, how was work?"
"Great! Guess what, I brought you something..."
"Sweet, is it an electric tool or some rubbish?"
"Rubbish"
"YEEESSSS! Bring it in!"

My husband knows the way to my heart >>> a power tool or a piece of hard rubbish lol. The other day he showed up with two electrical reels which I LOVE, almost as much as him.

How could I not turn one into a super manly rolling stool.....

I haven't added any before & afters for a while so this is the perfect project for that. I reckon this would look super duper at a boys study desk OR DRUMS :), or in a man cave. My husband is a bit of a petrol head and loves this. Of course.

We painted this a dark, almost black and added some grey stripe details all around the centre. The top has new foam and was covered in Warwick imitation leather. I just had to stitch a diamond pattern on this to replicate a bike seat, it was screaming out for it. The manly studs finished it off nicely.

Down below are some new heavy duty - but petite castor wheels. Overall the height and width was perfect!

Vintage Rifle Case

Last weekend I met a lovely "collector of interesting stuff" and I had the opportunity of rummaging around his chaotic (yet organised!) piles. Among other things I brought this vintage rifle case and I knew the second I saw it that it would make a fab bench seat or coffee table. And I was right!

We spent a lovely afternoon re-lining it in felt and mounting some legs on it.... too much fun to call work me thinks!

123 Chippy Stool

Yesterday we had a bad thunder and hail storm which made our place look like it was covered in snow. We don't get snow in Auckland so that was a novelty. The damage to my vege garden wasn't though! grrrr.

Needless to say the low atmospheric pressure and high humidity yesterday meant not a lot of painting got done. But today was a different story! I have started 4 painted projects today and one - this stool - is already finished. Yeahaa.

Chock full of chippy, denty, shabby goodness I'm totally in love with this. It looks genuinely aged and worn and I can envision this next to my bath tub..... if only I had room.

Coffee Sack Barstools

When I first brought these chairs they were in such good condition they didn't actually need anything done to them. The black vinyl was in perfect condition, and the metal frame was extremely presentable. I brought them for a steal and could easily on-sell for a profit as-is.

But whats the fun in that?! :)

Out came my coffee sacks again...you gotta love recycled products! Well? What do you think of these?

I decided to cover right over the top of the existing vinyl. Doing that will protect the foam from the roughness of the burlap, and also give the buyer another option when they want a change.

On to other news now.

This will be my last post for a while as I'm taking more leave. Some of my readers will recall I had spinal surgery at the end of March which I'm still recovering from... and recovering very well I might add!! However tomorrow I have more surgery, this time on BOTH hands as I suffer from CTS. This means I can't use hands at all for a while, and then only limited use after that. Luckily I have a great support system to feed, water, clean and walk me (sounds vaguely how we look after Boston & Deno.... hmmmm.....)

But what I scarey thought aye!! I'm already getting very nervous with only 25hrs to go at the time of writing this.

Its all good though. I can't wait to get these procedures done because it is a very VERY painful condition particularly at night........ And anyone who has/had CTS will be nodding along with me right now! :)

Dotty Kitchen Step Stool

I loved this little kitchen step stool when I first saw it. Its functional, but funky!

The original vinyl was in excellent condition, however very dated. In my fabric stash I found a mere scrap of red & white polka-dot cotton drill. By scrap I mean it was only about 1/4 of a metre! But there was more than enough to revamp this cheeky little number.

Wow, love it!!

Bathroom stool

I found this old sea-grass stool on the side of the road a while back. The weaving was damaged and covered in paint blobs. But I thought it would make a great project to learn from.

Unfortunately I needed the stool sooner than I could learn to weave it. So out came my jute webbing. My daughter & I had a fun time stretching the jute it over using our new air stapler and stretcher bar....
