A reel blokes stool
"Hi honey, I'm home"
"Hello my gorgeous husband, how was work?"
"Great! Guess what, I brought you something..."
"Sweet, is it an electric tool or some rubbish?"
"Rubbish"
"YEEESSSS! Bring it in!"
My husband knows the way to my heart >>> a power tool or a piece of hard rubbish lol. The other day he showed up with two electrical reels which I LOVE, almost as much as him.
How could I not turn one into a super manly rolling stool.....
I haven't added any before & afters for a while so this is the perfect project for that. I reckon this would look super duper at a boys study desk OR DRUMS :), or in a man cave. My husband is a bit of a petrol head and loves this. Of course.
We painted this a dark, almost black and added some grey stripe details all around the centre. The top has new foam and was covered in Warwick imitation leather. I just had to stitch a diamond pattern on this to replicate a bike seat, it was screaming out for it. The manly studs finished it off nicely.
Down below are some new heavy duty - but petite castor wheels. Overall the height and width was perfect!

Wee little slipper chair
This wee little slipper chair was a commission piece for an equally wee little 3 year old. And I'm sure it has turned out just as adorable as she is too!

After nearly two weeks cramming in commission jobs, I managed to tidy up one of my own pieces today for sale on TradeMe. This vintage daybed is selling at LOW RESERVE and $1 start.....and if you know anything about TM you'll know that $1 starts means the RESERVE IS $100 OR LESS. Which this one is.
I've personally owned this for several years now and was commonly used as a spare bed when the need arose. But if you can imagine this next to a full length window, with a book, soft music and a cool glass of orange juice then your on track! Bliss...

French Inspired Art Deco Settee
When I brought this French Toile style fabric I knew instantly it would look fab on a small settee.
And I was right!
I only recently obtained this little couch (by recently I mean less than a couple of days ago lol) and the second I got my hot little hands on it I knew it'd be a winner. I love the curved back rest, and the scalloped front rail....

The black piping has given it a lovely tailored look - sleek and sexy don't you think? The woodwork stained slightly darker than original, but keeping all the existing patina....all the character marks, dents and dings. This old beauty wears its age well!

TUTORIAL - Tying on buttons
Once a week I am helping a friend upholster a lounge suite. This week we tied on lots of buttons which has given me the inspiration for this tutorial - the upholsters slip knot. Enjoy peeps!
TUTORIAL - Upholster chair, cutting back slots
A difficult part when upholstering a chair is cutting the slots in the back of the fabric where it slips into the back rail. Cut too little and it won't sit straight... cut too much and you'll ruin the fabric! This has happened quite a few times I have to admit.
However in this video I'll demonstrate a way to do this easily so you can minimize some of those teeth grinding muck-ups.
Tangerine Retro Footstool

I love love love the carved floral detail on this wee little footstool. It was originally covered in a ghastly red vinyl, but boy does it flaunt itself in this orange macro suede. I replicated the grid sewn padding on the top which looks great.
My husband helped me on this project, and it was only fitting considering he brought this one home with him. First he stripped it down into pieces carefully removing all the tiny nails that was holding it together. All the original stain and varnish was bogging all the lovely carving down so that got stripped back. Using some fiddly clamps I helped him hold the bits together whilst he glued and pinned it back in place.... not an easy task.
Meanwhile, whilst the glue was doing its thing I whipped up the new cover. The fabric is luscious and thick... a macrosuede from Warwick fabric. The orange is the most perfect retro shade too! I kept the grid pattern, sewing it onto calico backed foam to give it some definition.
I went for a dark brown stain called Terra. The footstool was originally lighter in colour, but I thought the orange would pop more with a dark surround. And I was right... much better! Lastly a coat of gloss varnish to off-set the matt texture of the macrosuede. Perfect!
It was a great weekend project for me and hubby, and its lovely to do things together... no matter how small!

We all hate wrinkles, I know I do!
But I also hate wrinkles in my newly upholstered pieces, like this set of 6 dining room chairs I've just completed.

Industrial Lime - Retro dining chairs
These two little beauties I brought from my favourite charity shop "Papatoetoe Hospice" in Auckland. The ladies there are just lovely, the shop inviting and exciting.... and I always come out with some little treasure or two.
These chairs were actually in lovely condition apart from a tiny tear in one seat. However they were a bit tired and needed freshening up.
My friend Lisa from Urban Habitat gifted me some lime coloured vinyl a couple of weeks ago and its has worked perfectly for these. The colour really makes the industrial lines and black metal pop out.

Lime and Black Sofa Bed
My name is Antonia and I have an addiction.
REUPHOLSTERING THESE SOFA BEDS!!!
I admit it, I love love love doing these couches. When I've done one I can't wait until I can do another! They are called Night-and-Day Sofa Beds and are mostly made by Airrest. This is, erm, the 7th one I've done I think. Love them!!!
This one started off in a safe, almost boring butter yellow colour. Now its in a smoking hot, super sexy lime and black. Too awesome.
Yay yay yay-de-yay yay!
Don't ask me why I love doing these so much coz I couldn't tell you. They are hard and heavy... and I'm only 4'11" tall so definitely a handful. But stop I can't.... :)))

Raspberry Coolie
Raspberry coolie is the only name I could call this dining chair refurb. The fabric is raspberry pink and the super-quick turn around meant nothing but COOL can describe it!
How easy is recovering a set of dining sets huh? The hardest part was choosing the fabric and then making sure the pattern was centered and matching.
Not much more to say about these really - other than the dark brown and striking pink look AWESOME!

"Welbilt" Slipper Chair
It was a sad day for us today. We took our beloved elderly cat Sassy to the vet to be put to sleep after developing cancer in her white ear and pink nose. She was 17 years old so had lived a very long and happy life with us. We love and will miss her. RIP Sas. XXX
Sometime you come across pieces of furniture that are a pleasure to work on, and some are right royal pains in the butt! This Welbilt slipper chair was gorgeous, in design, construction and easy refurb. A total pleasure.
It was originally made in Glasgow, Scotland by H & AG Alexander in the 1960s. The seats are sprung and foamed, the upholstery is in a stunning turquoise and brown.
Sometime you come across pieces of furniture that are a pleasure to work on, and some are right royal pains in the butt! This Welbilt slipper chair was gorgeous, in design, construction and easy refurb. A total pleasure.
